Biography

The Black Crowes made old-fashioned Southern rock during an era when forward-looking musical styles were far more popular. Nonetheless, since their 1990 debut, this Georgia band, led by frontman Chris Robinson and his guitarist brother Rich, have proven to be a popular touring act, churning out sensual blues-rock that recalls the Rolling Stones and other classic-rock groups. It's certainly been a while since real rock and roll actually ruled. Sine the early nineties, it's been turgid riffs, angsty, screamy vocals, and no positive attitude whatsoever, and very few examples of a good ol' singalong. But while Nirvana were releasing their overated opus, 'Nevermind', The Black Crowes had already released '$hake Your Money Maker'. Rock N' Roll was still alive.
At the time, the form of music The Black Crowes were playing was unfashionable and uncool (as just about anything was other than long, greasy hair and black and red stripped long sleeve shirts), and amazingly they still broke through. Their combination of influences from the likes of The Rolling Stones and The Faces, The Black Crowes created a Rock And Roll renaisance.
On their greatest hits album they have selected the majority of The Black Crowes finest tracks. Fine, good-times rock, completed by mysterious and powerful balladry, provide a fine collection for anyone who still lives in the 70's in their mind and in their CD players.
The likes of 'Jealous Again', 'Twice As Hard', and the international break-through, 'Remedy' all provide fine rock songs that is surely how the 'Stones would sound if they'd appeared in the 90's, accompanied by their very good latter day works, which were never quite as good, but 'Kickin' My heart Around', 'Go Faster', and the nearly-ballad, 'Only A Fool' provide entertainment. The 'Crowes also know how to write a ballad or two as proven in fine style with the likes of, 'Thorn In My Pride', and in my opinion their best song, 'She Talks To Angels'.

I was told to listen to the the crowes by a friend. he said they were the best thing since the golden era of Led Zeppelin and company..
Naturaly i believed this was a statement made by an amature, but the album contains elements which rock and roll is all about. the raw emotion shown in tracks such as jealous again and stop kicking my heart around keep me returningf for a listen. forget The Darkness as the saviours of rock and roll...Buy the Black Crowes

I love the Black Crowes and this album doesn't let you down. It starts with Jealous Again and then gets better and better. My favourite track is Hard to Handle, which is just brilliant but all of the tracks will please. Play this loud!
