Synopsis
Contains the costume dramas SENSE AND SENSIBILITY (1995), AGE OF INNOCENCE, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (2005), ELIZABETH, and A ROOM WITH A VIEW.
Set in the English countryside, SENSE AND SENSIBILITY follows the loves and heartaches of sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. The two have extremely divergent approaches to life: Elinor represents 'sense' and believes in behaving with propriety and thoughtfulness, while Marianne represents 'sensibility' and basks in her own emotions. Both women, however, experience confusion when their lovers, seemingly on the verge of proposing marriage, spurn them.
THE AGE OF INNOCENCE, directed by Martin Scorses, is an adaptation of Edith Wharton's Pullitzer Prize-winning novel which chronicles the hypocrisy of high society in the 1880s and tells of three wealthy New Yorkers caught in a love triangle.
In SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, the reign of Elizabeth I finds Will Shakespeare, a writer, broke and envious of a rival. Then, he meets with a woman who wants to be an actor and who disguises herself as a man.
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE follows the five Bennet sisters as they deal with suitors and love, as their mother desperately schemes to marry them off advantageously. Sweet-tempered beauty Jane (Rosamund Pike) develops feelings for the equally amiable and extremely wealthy Mr. Bingley (Simon Woods), but forces conspire to keep them apart while Lizzie (Keira Knightley) finds herself first appalled by, but gradually drawn to, Bingley's aloof, intelligent, and socially awkward friend, Mr. Darcy (Matthew MacFayden).
