This book is a page turner, once you read 10 pages you don't want to set it down. I heard about this General, but everybody downplays in favor of Hannibal(who was probably the 2nd greatest General in the world). The author makes history come alive, and you can see and visualize what actually happened at the dawn of the Roman Empire. I read a lot of History books, and most are really boring (don't try any book on the Greek General Thucydides-you will fall asleep in 2 minutes). You can tell the author has spent a great amount of time researching his subject.
Basically, Scipio Africanus, turned a near disaster (the fall of the Roman Empire by Hannibal) into the height of expansion of Roman to rule the civilized world... Off course, he is a rare combination, he was a brilliant politician, a genius at the tactical, operational and Strategic level of War.
My hats off to the author for a well executed book. But this book, it will be an instant classic in your library.
