I was given this book when I was about twelve years old, and at the time I thoroughly enjoyed it. Along with other childhood books it was left in the attic for about twenty years, acquired a few paint stains and a covering of dust. I recently dug it out of an old box of stuff and read it again, and I think I enjoyed it even more than the first time.

Have since discovered that Marks and Spencer did a whole series of books (sea stories and air stories) which turned up in charity shops and jumble sales. All containing classic war tales (The Cruel Sea, Reach for the Sky etc.) Thoroughly recommended.
