4.0 out of 5 stars final book sets up for a new series, 26 Mar 2001
This review is from: Great War: Breakthroughs (The great war) (Hardcover)
In this final chapter of the Great War series (despite us being promised tetraology).

It continues with the stories developed in the previous two (so i don't recommend the buy without reading the first two and possible even "how few remain" the prequel for this set) and is also done in the usual turtledove style jumping between many characters form all sides of the story and again shows he is willing to kill off characters we know if the story need it no matter how hated or liked the character is.

This time though the book does not end completely leaving a few loose ends setting up for another series (possible set on world war 2 rather the world war 1). - (rumours that this will be the American empire trilogy that starts this year)

Although not his best work it is typical turtledove and an enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A war where America both wins and loses., 22 Mar 2001
This review is from: Great War: Breakthroughs (The great war) (Hardcover)
An interesting new chapter in the alternative 2nd world war. Interesting in that with most American war stories you need only look to the nationality of the author to guess which side will grasp victory. With this series the USA is split into the two waring factions of the CSA and USA so America as we see it now will both win and lose. An interesting plot idea begins to develop with the CSA's version of an early Hitler type figure, a plot I hope will be developed fully in what I hope with be a long series.
