Purchased this book in June 2012 (used). The description did not make it clear that the featured projects are from late 1990s to early 2000's ie before the housing boom and everything cost at least twice as much as it did 10 years ago. Some of the designs are mildly interesting and the cost breakdowns useful although quite out of date. No real detail on construction methods which is included which is where many savings can be made, mostly about interiors which can cost as much or as little as you want. Overall it is more of a book you would be happy to look at in the surgery reception for 5 minutes to pass you time, but no good as a (current) aid in achieving a low cost self build home.
