5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating 27 Sep 2013

The Great Train Robbery is one of those events which is seared on my memory. 1963 was the year I became a teenager, started boarding school, Profumo, the Kennedy assassination, the height of the Cold War, and of course the GTR. This fascinating book puts the GTR in context, in diary form, and does the job brilliantly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 29 Aug 2013

The GTR still fascinates the public 50 years after the event.

This nice easy to read book, was an absolute pleasure to read. I have read both Bruce Reynolds & Ronnie Biggs autobiography. This continues in a similar vein. Facts and not fiction.

A nice little book. What more do you want - and less than a tenner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good read 27 Aug 2013
By E
Really enjoyed this book which is a cross between a paperback and a book (bookazine?) there are loads of photos and it is very informative. I would recommend it to everyone who is interested in this crime and the people that were involved. It arrived quickly on prime with Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised - would recommend 25 Aug 2013
After reading some of the other reviews I was a little dubious about getting this to add to my true crime collection, but boy am I glad I did! There are loads of photos and the writing/reporting is punchy and keeps you entertained and informed. I agree it is not War and Peace but then what do you expect for the princely sum of under a tenner??? In my view it is a rip roaring good read about a celebrated crime committed 50 years ago when the World was a very different place. Buy it, grab a beer, take it down the pub to read and watch the conversations start! Highly recommended. Fast delivery from Amazon too!!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE LEGENDS CONTINUE ..... 19 July 2013
Excellent publication, very informative with superb photography, a very collectable and sought after 50th Anniversary publication for anyone interested in the Great Train Robbery, and lets face it, who isn't interested in the GTR ?

You only have to look at the front cover collage "Every picture tells a story- And what a story" with so many people involved in The Great Train Robbery past and present, who have collectively produced this Crime Of The Century,

Congratulations Nick, Chris & Michael, and a big hello to someone who has been such a big part of my life Ronnie Biggs, love seeing you on the front cover, and not forgetting one very special person, who sadly passed away last month, the legend that is Bruce Reynolds(God Rest your Soul)

There will always be an England ...........

If you watch or have watched the BBC series about the Great Train Robbery and want to know the actual facts about what really happened in the build up, at the robbery, and in the aftermath, then this is the one publication to read. The reason for five stars.

The book has the factual timeline and the facts from the birth of Bill Boal in October 1913 right up to the 50th anniversary celebrations on 8 August 2013. The information came directly from Bruce Reynolds, the robbery's mastermind, and from Ronnie Biggs, the most iconic of the robbers. It also came from Nick Reynolds, Bruce's son, who over the years has met or spoken to everyone that matters who was involved in the robbery, and on both sides of the law. Together they reveal information about the robbery and the robbers never published before, some of which was confirmed just hours before going to print.

I helped Bruce, Ron and Nick to compile and write the book (I had helped Ron to write his autobiography). It is deliberately designed as a magazine style bookazine so that the reader can dip in and out and explore the crime and its impact on all of those involved. It is the truth, however uncomfortable. There are also chapters on the cultural impact of the Great Train Robbery, the foul play involved on both sides, the myths and legends, and the private thoughts of Bruce and Ron fifty years on. It also contains photos from the private collections of Bruce and Ron.

For a more in depth look into the lives and times of Bruce Reynolds and Ronnie Biggs, you should also read their respective best selling autobiographies `The Autobiography of a Thief: The Man Behind The Great Train Robbery' and `Ronnie Biggs: Odd Man Out - The Last Straw.'
