A great album, from my new favorite band, 7 Jan 2002
After accidentally stumbling across this band on the internet, whilst looking for Fiona Apple songs, I was pleasantly suprised by the haunting nature of the vocals, and the thought provoking lyrics. I found Sarah (Lead vocals) voice reminiscent of that of Fiona Apple, and sometimes Jewel, but there is a difference in the way in which she is produced to sound almost ghostly.
The main difference between the music of K's Choice and the aforementioned artists is the back up her voice is provided by the band, who also create the ghostly, unhuman quality which is found on this album.
This said, I would recommend this album to lovers of music, as the influences on it can be heard to be taken from all the different styles surrounded by us today.
Stumbling across obscure artists has never been so pleasurable.

Weird and wonderful, catchy, moody, funny and touching, 18 May 2002
OKay, I have to confess that I came across them after hearing them on the BtVS Album.
But *wow*, they're so...*different*. The music is wonderful, with a wonderful delicate balance between vocals. It's honest to god one of those albums you have to have one repeat. "I smoke a lot", is so catchy and funny you will have it in your head *all day*, 'Breakfast' is hauntingly beautiful, as is 'Eligia', and if you're not moved by the angsty ' I will return to you', or 'What the hell is love'(one of my fave tracks - should be like, an alternative anthem) then you're beyond help.
With a dark, quirky ege, pop.culture references, and absolutely incredible lyrics (tho often of a mature nature) YOU HAVE TO HAVE THIS ALBUM.

Calm and intimate with spotlight on Sarah's voice, 3 May 2004
I discovered this album only after being an avid K's Choice listener for quite a while. «The Great Subconscious Club» is K's Choice's debut album, back from the time the band was still a small Belgium based band named «The Choice».If you've heard the bands following albums, you'll probably notice that this one naturally sounds a little less mature, being the band's first record. Nevertheless, the Betten brothers made this album work like a charm, with remarkable lyrics that could easily go into a poetry book and the Sarah Betten's voice being as great as always. Calm and beautifully heart-felt songs like «My Heart» or «Winter» contrast with the light and melodic song that would be perfect played by the fire, «Breakfast». I will rate it 4* since i believed that K's Choice improved from album to album - with each one being better than the previous - and i'll be keeping the top rating for those.
