This CD makes a great gift for anyone of a certain age (i.e. 30+)who can remember these TV themes. Most were used for BBC programmes, but have found their way onto an EMI CD as the copyright, for the most part, is not the BBC's but that of KPM, Boosey & Hawkes and so on. My favourite track is Johnny Pearson's "Heavy Action", used as the theme for 'Superstars' in the late 70s and 80s. Docked a star for not including Brian Bennett's "Chase Side Shoot Up", the original theme for the Ryder Cup coverage on the Beeb. Despite this, throughly recommended.

This 71-minute music CD is a great collection of catchy sporting themes that have been used as signature tunes to British radio & television programmes over the past 40 years or more. Experience the feel-good factor as you tap your feet to the familiar marching melodies while your imagination conjures up many different images of sport including Football, Tennis, Skiing, Test Cricket, Darts, Cycling, Rugby, Snooker and Athletics. Highlights include the early Saturday afternoon Grandstand, the late-evening Match Of The Day, plus the opening and closing titles to the annual Wimbledon tournament.

If you like music and sport, then you will simply love this CD. Order it today!

Authentic sounding 21 Feb 2009
Shame there was no "Question of Sport" as I actually needed this to put together an educational presentation on the Science of Sport. The tunes sound authentic (unlike some of the cheaper CDs available which sound like they were recorded with a Bontempi organ) even if this was a little pricey.
