I've been a fan of Kate Hindley's work for a long, long time and couldn't wait to get my hands on her new picture book 'The Great Snortle Hunt' - The illustrations are so beautiful and full of character and whimsy. The story (written by Claire Freedman) is just as good - nice to read to children as it rhymes and there is a lot of expression in it to keep them interested. Really lovely book to buy for any little'uns in your life, or if you're a big kid like me, buy it for yourself :)

This was a lovely rhythmic book to read, a great rhyme scheme for a parent and very different to Freedman's famous Aliens and Underpants series.

A different illustrator, a different style of writing, though it does feature a monster. Or does it? Mouse, Cat and Dog want to discover if the dreaded Snortle is real. What will they find??

My son was riveted as I read this, he liked the tension and he thought the ending was brilliant. I enjoyed reading it, it was a nice singsong rhythm to read aloud.

It might not look like Aliens, but it's a great story to share with 3-5 year olds. Give it a try.

We are a class of children aged 5, 6 and 7. We really enjoyed the story of 'The Great Snortle Hunt'. We thought it was fabulous because there are good rhyming words and it was funny. The illustrations are lovely and they help to tell the story. This would be a perfect bedtime story for children in Foundation stage, Key Stage 1 and maybe Key Stage 2 as well. We highly recommend it!

Really nice book this. The hardback version is probably worth getting it to be honest as this is one I'll be reading for years to come. I've road tested on my 5 and 3 year old. Both like it, although my 3yr old found it slightly scary at first (won't say any more in case I spoil the story for anyone who hasn't read it). Looking forward to more books by Claire Freedman.

Our children of 6 and 5 years love these books - where stories rhyme and build up to tense moments that then become a realisation of misinterpretation, and all ends with everyone being friends... a bit like life really! Anyway, a great book, this author and illustration is on a par with Julia Donaldson's Gruffalo.
