Chekhov was a very gifted writer, whose stories are gems; some may be sorry that he never wrote a full length novel, but like musical pieces, the stories are perfectly paced and concluded.

This is a very well translated copy. All those interested in Tsarist Russia (a society that our media demeans and dehumanises) or those with a plain love of good writing will love this book.
