Product Description

Unrecognisable, the Herald is hiding at the very heart of Abydos. With his accomplices, he is preparing to commit the supreme crime. By bringing death into the kingdom in order to prevent the resurrection of Osiris, he will at last be able to overthrow Pharaoh Sesostris, seize power and spread his evil doctrine far and wide. Will Iker manage to fulfil his mission, to celebrate the mysteries of Osris? In the face of misfortune, will the priestess Isis bring her Quest for the Impossible to a successful conclusion? And can death really be overcome? After forty years spent fervently studying the doctrines of Ancient Egypt, Christian Jacq closes the series by revealing the Great Secret of resurrection. This mystery was at the very centre of Egyptian thought and pharaonic civilisation, and is the key to a modern understanding of Ancient Egyptian life.

3.0 out of 5 stars Brave subject but poor plot, 24 Dec 2007
By
Mr. Stephen Edwards (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Firstly let me say I am a huge fan of Jacq, and would give all the other series he has written five stars. This review is for the whole MOO series, as I wait untill all books in a series are released so I can read them one after the other - effectively reading one large book. I therefore have waited impatiently for the last one so I can read them. But I was very disappointed with these books. Firstly I found them for the most part predictable, with similar plots to his other books. Secondly, I felt that there was far too much time spent on descibing rituals etc and not enough effort on the plot. Thirdly, there is far more magic in this series, and whilst there has always been magic in his books, the heroes generally succeed by using their intelligence, not by pulling another trinket out of their pocket to smite the enemy.
As I said, - love Jacq, love egyptology, but this one was a miss for me. Lets hope the new series will be better.
What I also meant to say but forgot to put in to the reviews of the other books in this series is that the plot does revolve around a religious fanatical terrorist movement, quite brave stuff considering what is going on in the world at the moment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mix of truth and fiction!, 19 Sep 2010
By C. R. Metzgar - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Great Secret (Mysteries of Osiris) (Paperback)
Christian Jacq is an author that has a gift for mixing characters he has created with facts he knows to be true from ancient Egypt. "The Great Secret" is one such book and it gives an glimpse of how life in ancient Egypt may have been.
