2.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight. 21 Feb 2013
By Gwizz25
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
The first time I've got an Amazon order wrong! This book is too lightweight in content to be much use as a reference. Nobody's fault but my own however, so it can just sit in the bookcase along with the others....

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice overview of the major labels and the artists associated with them. 1 May 2014
By Phil - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This wasn't exactly what I expected but for the price I took a chance. It's a nice coffee table book that gives a brief overview of many well known record labels, the artists that made them famous and a brief history. Many nice photographs.

What I was actually looking for was more a book showing the many varied and colorful labels (the physical labels on the records themselves) that you now only see on used records with a brief history of each. There have been so many little and indie labels from the 60's through the 90's that I thought that would be a fun book to have. If anyone knows of such a book (or something in that neighborhood) please mention it here.

But if you want something focused a little bit more on the artists signed and how the record companies themselves got started this is a very fine and enjoyable book.
