Lavishly produced book featuring over 270 courses from 33 countries. The book starts in England before travelling to Scotland, Ireland, and other European countries. The journey continues through Australia and New Zealand. American courses follow with racetracks from the rest of the world featuring in a haphazard order. 32 pages are devoted to racing in England compared to 46 in Australia. It is stated that the Cesarewitch starts in Cambridgeshire and finishes in Sussex - that would be interesting race to view! The pictures are of a higher quality that the text and there is no explanation of the abbreviations. Some are obvious but others are hard to decipher. Many of the race distances are given in metric, when many readers would have preferred the imperial alternative (even in brackets. Greater detail about the courses and races would be more informative than long lists of race winners which can be found in reference books. Why the Palio Di Siena and the Mongol Derby appear in Great Racetracks of the World, only the authors can know. Neither takes place on a proper racetrack and both harm the image of racing.

In the introduction it is stated nobody had produced a book covering all the tracks where Group or Listed races take place. Hopefully, in the future a better book will be produced that fulfils that desire.
