The great alto saxophonist Charlie Parker(1920-1955) recorded these marvellous quartet and quintet sessions for Norman Granz's CLEF label(later VERVE) between 1950 & 1952.
The master takes from these seven studio sessions feature a variety of line-ups including trumpeters Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie & Red Rodney; pianists Thelonious Monk, Hank Jones, Al Haig, John Lewis & Walter Bishop Jr.; bassists Teddy Kotick, Percy Heath, Curly Russell & Ray Brown and drummers Max Roach, Kenny Clarke & Buddy Rich. Tenorist Coleman Hawkins appears on one track.
The passionate and brilliant modern jazz on this 25-track, 75-minute CD is als well recorded and makes an ideal introduction to the music of Charlie Parker.

25 tracks of Brilliant lively saxophone fun on one really long cd with 25 tracks on it that run in to each others it makes for an exceelent album With lots of famous names playing on the sessions too like Max Roach, The Music is fantastic, and lively. There is lots of playful banter between the musicians (musical banter) and the drumming is exceptional as is the bass Well all the instruments are. Charlie Parker is awesome It is a good introduction to Charlie Parker

Verve Sessions 7 July 2013
By John M. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
A handy one to have even if you have the Verve COMPLETE MASTER TAKES where these tracks are spread over 3 CDs. 2 quartet sessions lead off the CD but the 2'nd quartet session with Hank Jones which only produced 3 tunes which were not released until the early 12 inch LP years is not included.
The trumpet quintets come next. The full sessions with Miles Davis, Gillespie or Rodney.
Also included is Celerity quartet and Ballade quintet with Coleman Hawkins.
There are no alternate takes.
