This review is from: Great Moments of Nicolai Gedda (Audio CD)
I heartily recommend this collection to anyone wishing to listen to, truly, a golden voice of a by-gone age. Selected from recordings made over the first twenty years of an astounding career, this album demonstrates just how a beguiling lyric tenor, combined with unfailing musicality and style, can impress, thrill, and charm all at the same time. Gedda combines his polished vocal technique with model diction and sheer good taste , providing ample proof as to why he remained a household name at opera houses across the world for almost forty years. Although capable of great dramatic intensity when required, (whoever said his is a small voice is quite wrong. Gedda sings as a servant to the music, becoming part of the whole in a way indicative of one entirely at ease with his appointed role, and his ability to fullfil it.
