Product Description

The very first stitch a new knitter learns is the garter stitch; its the foundation for every later skill. Usually, budding stitchers then go on to purl and more advanced techniques and forget the garters vast potential. But this entire beautiful collection is dedicated to that first stitch and knitters will be amazed to find out just how much you can create using it. Acclaimed needlework authors Rita Weiss and Jean Leinhauser exhibit a gorgeous array of afghans, sweaters, hats, and more - 50 different elegant and stylish projects in all. Beginners will love this book because theyll easily be able to knit every item, while even more experienced knitters will want to make these garments because theyre so stunning.

I am really impressed by this book. Although few of the patterns are not my 'cup of tea' the the majority are things I like and want to make, which makes a pleasant change. The patterns are easy to understand and the construction straight forward. Classic and structured without being old fashioned, I can't wait to start my first project

Up and Down on this one because there are some patterns that I will definitely do along some that are just - well strange! The long very colourful sleeveless jacket on the front cover looks great but is done in strips and then sewn together - looks good though.

Disappointing. As a relatively experienced knitter I was seduced by the reminder of the simplicity of garter stitch.
The cover illustration was interesting and I thought that maybe I had been missing the attractiveness of the first stitch every knitter learns.
I guess that someone new to the craft may find it useful - but there was little here to inspire anyone who has been knitting for some time. It will sit on my shelf as a reminder that simple is rarely worthwhile!
