This is an excellent account of thr robbery of KIng Edward I's treasury in Westminster Abbey. It recounts the background of Richard Puddlicott amnd his gang, the details of the robbery and the consequences for the robbers.
The author deals thoroughly with the action taken to discover the robbers and to bring them to justice. He also considers the role of the monks of the Abbey; were they innocent or were they saved by political pressures?

The author has obviously done his research into this surprisingly relatively obscure incident. However, I thought there was rather too much repetition and am not sure there was really a full length book in this, so it did get rather dull at times. Also, some minor annoyances like insisting on calling Edward's II favourite Peter (rather than Piers) Gaveston.

Paul Doherty is a brilliant writer that keeps you guessing right to the end - I have a large number of his works and can safely say I have never been dissapointed.
