People buy the GGBO books for a variety of reasons. There are profiles of the bakers featured in the 2014 competition, some of their specialist bakes, and usually the technical challenges. I noticed that a couple of the technical challenges weren't included, so to make doubly sure you get what you want, I've listed them all here.

The technical challenges for each week of the 2014 GGBO are:

Cake: cherry cake
Biscuits: Florentines
Bread: ciabatta
Desserts: tiramisu cake
Pies and tarts: mini pear pies (not included)
European cakes: dobbos torte
Pastry: Breton kouign amann
Advanced dough: Croation povatica
Patisserie: German schichttorte (not included)
Final: perfect sponge, caramel, choux pastry as petit four

The book is broken down into:

A baker's guide
Biscuits and tray-bakes (pecan shorties; Enwezor's pumpkin and sunflower biscuits; fudge brownies...)
Breads (cheddar and mustard loaf; Irish brace; Jordan's rye and spelt load; banana bread...)

There are some great recipes in here and I love the "spoon" difficulty rating system that helps prepare me for the difficulty of the task. Only improvement I would have recommend is give more recipes from contestants. There only seemed to be one recipe from each, but I would have loved to try more of the signature recipes that the contestants put together on the show.

Have been watching the bake off for years now but first time that I've bought one of their books. My daughter who's a keen baker sent me her Amazon wish list email and this was top of the list! So it's being wrapped as a gift, although I wish we could start baking from it right now as I'm keen to try some of the dessert baking with my daughter! Beautiful book, with lovely photographs, although some reviews had said the book doesn't include everything, I think the book includes enough for anyone to spend the next year baking through the book, which I hope my daughter and I will be able to do!

I wouldn't bother buying the kindle edition. Titles are on wrong pages, photos don't match the titles. Not impressed. They have some big problems.

My daughter, 5 year old granddaughter and I enjoyed the Great British Bake Off series so much. We watched every week, and my granddaughter said she would like to be a taster. Chetna responded to one of my tweets, and my granddaughter was ecstatic. I purchased this Big Book of Baking to share with them. My daughter loves to bake, and she will probably use some of these recipes.

The blatant negative is that this cookbook does not have a conversion chart for measurements. That is a really big NO, NO, if you want to sell this book in the US.

This is a big cookbook. 319 pages. It is separated into 8 chapters and an index. Inserted into these chapters is a bio of the bakers who were competing for the big prize in 2014. They were asked several questions, so it was fun to see their answers, to get to know them a little more. Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood are mentioned, and their recipes are in the book, but no interview with them. That was a disappointment.

This starts with an Introduction, but it was slim pickings, and not enough information by far. Onto a Baker's Guide, definition of terms, and suggestions on how to bake certain items. This is four pages of useful information. Biscuits and Traybakes follows, Breads, Cakes, Sweet Pastry and Patisserie, Savoury Bakes, and Puddings and Desserts. Missing were the contestants technical bakes, and the supreme winners. There were many photos, but not every baked product had a photo. One of the cakes I was most interested in, had no photo.

All in all I found this cookbook to be wanting. It included basics, but I wonder if it was put together quickly. I wanted more info about the contestants, and judges. Technical challenges and the big winners were missing, and that was a big miss.

Kindle version isn't worth money. Better buy printed book. The titles don't match recipes, titles are on separate pages than recipes, pictures don't represent recipes they follow. Huge disappointment!

I have made scones from this book, the ingredients same 50gr of caster sugar but when you read through the method it does not tell you at what point to put the caster sugar in. This was not a cheap book I bought it as I liked the program on tv.
I am very disappointed in this book and had I found this fault before using the book I would have returned it. Your proof reads need a lesson in reading. If the job is worth doing its worth doing well.
I would not recommend this book to anyone .
