Product Description

Three small brothers nicknamed Toughy, Smarty and Mouse run away to find an uninhabited island - as far as possible from the do s and don ts of the real world. Everyone dreams of running away at least once in their lifetime. Toughy, Smarty and Mouse discover an island which seems perfect. Sun, sand, fruit in the trees, fish in the sea. No haircuts. No school dinners. No goodnight kisses. Best of all, no grown-ups. Or so they think until they discover Cornelius Button, the great grasshopper expert who lives with his housekeeper, Lupus, on the other side of the island. There is also a villain to threaten their idyll. But in the end, Grasshopper Island remains a happy place where they all enjoy life in their own particular way. Filmed in the seventies in Wales and Corsica, this adventure series is still being tracked down by fans who saw it originally.

It was quite surprising watching Grasshopper Island for the first time in several decades. I recall that it was in four parts; imagine my surprise when I found it was in twelve short episodes. Watching it again made me realise just how fickle memory is. It was a pleasure watching Grasshopper Island after so long. Praise be Amazon for stocking it.

All walks down memory lane should be this good. It reminded me of, and took me back to, a less complicated time. My kids are now enjoying the simplicity of this fine, albeit ancient, production.

You would not buy this DVD for it`s quality or production values but as a slice of nostalgia it`s great fun.

So much better than most of the current children's programmes which seem to insist on nonstop action with choppy editing. Let your kids be taken on an innocent adventure exploring butterflies and fancy dress!

I saw this on tv many years ago and always remembered it and thought my neice and nephew at 9 and 10 would enjoy it which they did.
