This is one of my favorite and most insperational books. Well laid out, a good read and exceptionally interesting and informative. Made me question my farming techniques and start to change them. I think almost every beef farmer could learn something from this book, be it grass land management or how to move and handle cattle succesfully. Read this book in conjunction with Joel Salatin's Salad Bar Beef (another very good read) and together they should set any young (or older!?) farmer up for a chance to break into the industry succesfully.

I would very much recommend this book if you are interested in keeping cattle and have the land to raise them extensively. It's not much use if you can't cause the whole point of it is rotational grazing and keeping them outside until finished. We are emigrating to Canada and this is how we want to farm out there and i found the book great. There is lots about grass and managing the grassland. There is lots in the back about marketing and direct selling of your product. Good section about handling and coralls and stress free management. More american/canadian reference than british but would be a worthwhile read if you were farming here.

This is an enormous book, filled with an extraordinary amount of detail on how to keep cattle on grass and get the most out of it. Some of it is American and not so relevant, but the vast majority is extremely valuable. Of use also to anyone keeping any livestock on grass, it explains the value of rotational grazing and goes into extraordinary depth about how grass 'works'. It has more about grass than it does about cattle! Highly recommended and only knocked one star off because of the American references. Has lots at the back on how to market beef.
