I think this program was doomed by originating on BBC3. Far too good for the "Two Pints" crowd, but probably viewed as similar to the aforementioned piece of rubbish by the people who would actually have enjoyed it. It's main character is a refugee from the Fast Show, although he's quite a bit different here, and another of the prominent characters is the eminent Mark Williams, also of The Fast Show. But again it draws the Fast Show fans and surely disappoints whilst putting off people who wouldn't like TFS but WOULD LOVE THIS!! More of a comedy drama than the belly laughs this one, I reckon it would appeal more to people who like Auf Weidersehen Pet than Harry Enfield fans. Sort of.
I love this - it's heartwarming, heartbreaking in a way as well. Beautifully written and acted, totally off the wall, funny without being cruel or crass - it just hits the barminess of life really nicely. And here it is, a year after it belatedly came out on DVD, out of stock at Amazon and headed for posthumous recognition if it's lucky. A lost classic. Buy buy buy!
