Product Description

Product Description

Kendo Nagasaki, a masked wrestler for over 40 years, celebrates the hilarious and theatrical 'sport' ofprofessional wrestling. Alongside the golden greats - Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks, Mick McManus and Hulk Hogan - this highly illustrated book profiles over 30 often ridiculouslynamed, bizarrely dressed wrestlers from Britain and America. This is the cue for truly fascinating, anecdote-packed biographies - remember, these are not normal people - and hilarious imagery: think horrendous haircuts, over-the-top outfits, ludicrous stage personas and 30-stone men in leotards. Making this a truly unique book, there's the opportunity for the reader to learn, through step-by-step instructions, the wrestlers' flamboyant fighting moves- clothes lines, body splashes and pile drivers (don't worry, all will be explained) - thus proving that anyone can put the showmanship back into self-defence.

About the Author

Kendo Nagasaki is a masked samurai who has been a professional wrestler for over 40 years. He nearly represented his country at Olympic level but a mysterious life changing experience led to him to live the life of a deceased samurai warrior. A man of mystery, Kendo has been painted by Sir Peter Blake and could be described as a British institution. He was the subject of a BBC2 ARENA documentary and recorded their highest ever audience figures. Dickie Davies was the highly-respected presenter of ITV's WORLD OF SPORT. Famed for his 'badger' white-steaked hair and smooth style, he is fondly remembered and has established an enormous retro-cult status.

5.0 out of 5 stars You don't have to be a wrestling fan to enjoy this book!, 7 Oct 2005

This is a great book! Even if you're not a fan there's still plenty to enjoy here. The photos and artwork are as good inside as they are on the (brilliant) cover, and the text manages to be witty without mocking the characters that made wrestling so popular. This book is an ideal birthday or Christmas present, and I'll certainly be handing out a few copies in the near future. Fantastic stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lets get ready to rumble!, 30 Sep 2005
This review is from: The Grapple Manual: Heroes and Villains from the Golden Age of World Wrestling (Hardcover)
Wrestling is one of my passions and this book is great in providing background on the fighters, details of immense past match-ups and facts on what our past heroes are up to now.

I was brought up on a diet of big daddy versus giant haystacks in my youth, followed by the glamour of the WWF hulk hogan versus the ultimate warrior battles. All my grappling memories came flooding back and I even wanted to try out the big daddy splash on my mates.
