Product Description

Product Description

From Mumbai to Chennai and from Kochi to Karachi, from the humble signwriter to the blue-chip advertising agency, the creative industries of India entice and inform a population of over one billion. In this crowded, colourful world, innovation is often born of necessity and scant resources, and can result in the very clever or the completely ridiculous. The most exciting graphic work has been singled out by the keen eye of Keith Lovegrove on his journey through India. He lovingly documents a wide range of vernacular graphics and commercial art from the personalized bodywork of vehicles through to advertising hoardings; from political posters to lavish Bollywood publicity. The result is a celebration of the huge variety of graphic work that Lovegrove found in this densely populated landscape and a reflection of the religious, political and cultural diversity along his route.

4.0 out of 5 stars great reference, 26 Jan 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Graphicswallah: Graphics in India (Paperback)
As a designer working for global clients, I am constantly on the look out for reference which illustrates various international graphic trends and styles. Graphicswallah is one of those essential references. During the "Bollywood" fad of recent years, there have been a few books jumping on the bandwagon. This one is different. Graphicswallah provides me with real insight to an audience I knew little of. It is also a great source of general inspiration, helping me create innovative concepts for many other clients around the world. Lovegrove and Hasson have obviously delved deeper and harder, knowing where to look, and doing the footwork and research for me, so that I can concentrate on new design.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant!, 19 Jan 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Graphicswallah: Graphics in India (Paperback)
whoever wrote the previous review clearly has no knowledge about the subject themself. i myself am studying graphics with photography and found this book to be an excellent resource. its a completely different take on graphic design as i knew it from here in the uk. the incredible skills of the artists over there really put me to shame, and i was in awe of every new design i saw! the photography is superb throughout, perhaps as good a resource for photography as graphics. it is a well written, well presented and well researched publication, and i would recommend it to anyone!
