This is the perfect compact guide to your first year in art school, media or anything similar. It's also a pretty good read by itself. I use this book as part of the basis of my first year media/graphic course that I teach. It's timely, well explained and compact. The explanations are clear and the assignments both interesting and instructive. I recommend it to anyone aspiring to the graphic arts, but particularly to foundation year and first year art students as it will clearly explain processes and aesthetic thinking behind designs. Couple this with Adobe's classroom in a book series and you will have both how and why covered.

Purchased for my son's graphic design class. The instructor recommended it as a text to supplement her instructions. He states the book provides a wealth of information in a very well-organized fashion. He plans on retaining the book for future reference.

An in-depth, informative and beautifully laid-out publication! It covers everything, has terrific summaries and tips, and will remain at my fingertips as a valued reference.
Good self teach book 4 Mar. 2015
By Nathan Cowles - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Good all in one book about the basics. The assignments, definitions and brief overview allow for self teaching and introduction courses. For those who have experiance with other books or classes it felt lacking in depth especially in most of the 2nd half of the book. Felt like a story your hooked on and it abrutly ends most topics leaving you feel unsatisfied with no climax. My design proffesors and my self all agreed the layout was lacking, distracting and uninspiring. I expect a graphic design book to be inspiring in its layout otherwise its hypogritocal.
