This axe is a legend in survival circles. I have never owned one but was delighted to receive it as a gift. I use an axe a lot mainly for chopping wood and other tasks including fencing carving and preparing game. I already have my favourite for heavy work the Fiskars axe but the Granfors takes some beating.
It will fell small trees and prep wood for the fire, although at 19/20" long it is not a felling axe. It is reasonably light and well balanced and I have found it easy to handle safely and with accuracy. It arrived very very sharp indeed and was put to work next day as an axe and hammer and handled the work with ease. It does everything I ask of it and I take it everywhere with me( No not to the pub or shopping on Saturday ). I still prefer the Fiskars for splitting wood but the granfors is a truely all purpose tool. It comes with a basic but good quality sheath which secures the blade. This is important as it is very sharp, indeed I have well cared for knives that don,t have such an edge. I use a stone and strop to sharpen, the booklet with the axe will tell you how. Make sure you protect the head against rust, keep it sharp and it shouldn,t let you down.
Incidently, my axe did not come from Amazon and was cheaper else where.
