Product Description

Product Description

When her husband died, it was clear to Verity that she would have to sell Knighton, the beautiful old house where her daughter, Hester, had grown up and where her mother before her had come as a young bride. But the move proved to be a beginning rather than an ending: it revealed a host of secrets which the three women had been harbouring. Successful, single and independent, Hester was determined to put to rest the legacies that she had inherited.

About the Author

Charlotte Moore was born in 1959. She read English at St Anne's College, Oxford, and history of art at Birkbeck College, London. She has published three novels, Promises Past, Martha's Ark and My Sister Victoria; and a highly-praised account of her life with her two autistic sons, George and Sam, based on a column she wrote for the Guardian. Hancox, her account of her Victorian and Edwardian ancestors and the Tudor house in which they lived in Sussex, is published in Viking simultaneously with the paperback of Grandmother's Footsteps.

Secret revelations 20 Oct 2008
Format:Hardcover
Beautifully written, the story of three generations of women unfolds gently and fluidly. The language and wonderful use of description is at times not unlike Austen, yet it's a very contemporary novel with strong hints of intrigue and deception that compelled me to keep turning the pages. With likeable and totally believable characters, Grandmother's Footsteps is ultimately a very satisfying read. Not least because you cannot help but compare the women with one's own family members - I defy you not to!

A good read 2 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Keep with the first few chapters - the character details are complex. After that, a really well written, intriguing plot. Hope there will be a sequel.

3 women and secrets 27 July 2010
Format:Paperback
I couldn't really get to grips with this book. Felt it was dotting around all over the place until I lost track of who was who and what happened to who and how everything connected. Good idea for a story but not clearly written.
