When granddad died, 83 people went to the funeral. A lot of them cried. Jessica, Colin, Sasha and Tom thought of the good times they'd had with their granddad. They knew they would miss him a lot. 'He had always wanted to be cremated', said Grandma, 'and his last wish was to have his ashes scattered in his favourite place'. This beautifully illustrated full-colour children's picture book tells the story of four grandchildren who embark on an adventure to find the best place to scatter their Grandad's ashes - but find plenty of challenges on the way. The story is told with gentle humour, and is written for children aged 4-8. As well as a charming book for all children, it is an ideal resource for parents or counsellors to read with a child as a way of broaching issues surrounding loss or bereavement.

Talking about the death of a grandparent with your kids is something many people have to do, and making a fun story about it might seem a bit weird, but in fact really can work well.
Kids are curious and don't necessarily know how to deal with grief, and more especially don't know how to deal with grief in their parents. The book helps with those issues by making the whole thing approachable, and into a shared experience.
The pictures are great - reminiscent of Raymond Briggs - and the story is good fun. Recommended.
