I'm afraid I could never describe any compilation as a "classic album" and even if I did, this one would fall far short of qualification. To my mind only an album proper can be described as such. Babe Ruth's only classic album was their debut from 1972 "First Base" and, unfortunately, they would never reach that level or even match anything on it again as it was all down hill from there. The real Babe Ruth "Best of" is "First Base".
That debut had seven 5* and one 4* tracks on it and four of those 5* tracks are here on this compilation, namely "Wells Fargo", "The Mexican", "For a Few Dollars More" and "Joker". That and being described as a "Best Of" does not, however, mean that this compilation is even near to being in the same league as "First Base". Though compilations' contents are often subjective, this one has more filler than classic tracks, which is understandable as nearly all the classic tracks were on "First Base". Nobody, not even a fan, would want rubbish like "Gimme Some Leg" and "Doctor Love" especially when it's at the expense of a great little single like their cover of the soul classic "Private Number" written for Otis Redding, who unfortunately died before he could record it.
If you want a best of Babe Ruth buy the "First Base" reissue with the addition of a single mix and non-album B-side or for the same price see what you're not missing by buying the "First Base"/"Amar Caballero" combination (the only think you'll miss is that fantasic cover shot of Jenny in her heyday) but leave this one and the rest of their studio albums (bar the new one "Que Pasa") well alone.
