When you read the cover jacket of this book, you immediately think, "Been there, done that", because at first you think it is one of those novels that you have read loads of times before, just the characters have changed. We remember the times when our kids were small, the play groups at the park, the afternoon teas with other new mums, exchanging updates and progress reports - is this all the same again?
No, this is not the case this time.
Four women, who manage against the odds, to stay part of each others lives and to live the pains, pleasures and knocks that life sends one over the years.
You identify with Chris, the poor abused mentally and physically; I was actually at the stage when I could have given her a whack for allowing her to get herself into the situations that she was driven into by a totally mad, obsessive, sick man, but then you realize that it could so easily happen to anyone; you identify with Vikki - you feel that continued pressure she is under, trying to manage to be career lady, super mum and best friend (now where have I heard that before?) and then there is Susan and Barbara, having to cope with wandering husbands, blackmail problems at work, to name but a few.
I actually could not put this book down - it allowed me to escape from the daily rushing around of life and helped me to realize that my life is not as crazy as I thought - there is life after work and how great families are as a whole in spite of sometimes crazy parents who try to control lives of their offspring.
Read it, I know you will enjoy it!
