3.0 out of 5 stars Was Caesar IV Better?? 3 Jan 2011
By RT Head
Edition:Gold Edition
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Having to admit defeat and realise that Caessr IV was not going to run on Windows 7 (shame) I looked around for a replacement game to occupy my precius idle moments.I liked the look of Grand Ages Rome and Amazon very promptly dispatched a copy which was soon up and running. So far, I am a little underwhelmed, maybe I got so used to C4. There are some interesting features but it hasn't got me hooked yet. Autosve drives you crazy!! Turn it off and save in your own time. Grand Ages is a much more difficult game to plan carefully especially in Free Build Mode.
I will persevere. In the meantime, I sneak upstairs to my woefully under-powered spare machine, running XP and make a brave attempt to continue with C4.
So, the jury is still out. Maybe in a Year's time I will have forgotten C4 and be equally avid about the possibilities of Grand Ages Rome - who knows?

2.0 out of 5 stars Starts well, but..... 18 Feb 2012

Installed and run the game and all was good. The game is smooth, graphics are nice, and there is lots to do. Getting into the campaign there is more to control, and it soon becomes a balancing act. This is enjoyable until the fires start. It takes a while to figure what is and is not important to track as you build your cities. The problem for me is that the fires rip through your cities too quickly. Before you really get to grips with it boredom with reworking your cities sets in.
