5.0 out of 5 stars don't hesitate, buy it... 17 Feb 2003
Format:Audio CD
i was recomended to this brilliant album in december - and haven't been able to stop playing it. if you love leftfield, zero7, tosca, k+d, llorca, DePhazz, and similarly unique - this is an essential purchase. it fuses jazz lounge with triphop dance in a an album that, like zero7, begs to be played over and over. Fans of Leftfield's first album will love track 4 'sliding'-- pure magic... Their first album is great as well, if on a more chilled out level.

5.0 out of 5 stars dZihan & Kamien at their best 18 Aug 2005
Format:Audio CD
This was the first album I bought from dZihan & Kamien (pronounced Jay-hahn and Kammy-en) and I believe it to be the best. It was clear after the first two albums that dZihan & Kamien know how to create unique and brilliant music but I feel that Gran Riserva cranks things up a little.

It is quite a chilled album in many ways since it has soft noizes (as dZihan & Kamien call them) and beautiful keys all throughout the music. The double bass echoes seamlessly through nearly all the songs and the mix of vocalists for the songs really suits the album well. Often with one vocalist you don't hear the full extent of the song and are left with a voice which doesn't seem to go with the music.

When the opening track (Stiff Jazz) opens you will be immediately welcomed into the world of dZihan & Kamien, a truly unique world at that. I would really hate to put this album in a genre because it doesn't really fit one. To call it just downtempo (like some people do) takes away from the fact that dZihan & Kamien really play on the edges of soulful house and jazz music.

This is an album worth getting and an album which deserves your time. Enjoy it. And remember, the old men on the cover aren't dZihan & Kamien. Phew!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Lounge 24 Jun 2005
Format:Audio CD
The first I heard of D&K was listening to a dub remix they had created of Tosca's track Busenfruend (Suzuki In Dub). After this I was constantly asking myself, "who are these guys?!"

Well, browsing at a music store I saw Gran Riserva (interest piqued even further by the cover art/design!).

Having been inspired by middle eastern grooves for years this CD has found a permanent place in my collection. The two members got together through their love for middle eastern sounds, and have incorporated this influence into their sound.

Think of the quality of jazz or classical music and you will know the quality of the D&K members when it comes to making music that is more than pop music can ever hope to be. D&K are accomplished musicians who add quality to every note and melody!

Elements of jazz, lounge, middle east, all spiralling around each other - leaving you with a desire to hit play again and turn up the volume! Even the quieter, simpler tracks draw you in.

One of those purchases you will never regret!

4.0 out of 5 stars That little gem! 11 Oct 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
If you love the dance chill vibe, then you will be pleasantly surprised with this little gem. The tracks are clever funk ~ jazz disco ~ that's been seriously chilled. Track 1 has a jazz cafe feel. Lovely quirky little track to lead you in...Track 2 a jazz, trumpet and bass delight...... Track 3 has ethnic string melodies that entertain. Track 4 could be Groove Armada layered over a 1980's jazz funk hit..... (you will see what I mean) Track 8 could have been written by ST Germain... Track 9 and 11 bounce along with a seriously chill funk style of their own. Only a couple of naff tracks, but for all the other entertaining tracks, well worth a spin! I love it. That little gem that you buy because you love the front cover and it totally surprises you!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Shaken not stirred..." 13 Aug 2006
By Duckbus
Format:Audio CD
Technologically speaking, I have never heard a more impressive recording of music before. It's mixed beautifully and the audio quality just sounds so crisp & clean. Each instrument has it's own space and I love how the bass just feels so "present" and dynamic.

The style of music is harder to describe, because Dzihan & Kamien take their influences from all over the globe. Essentially they are dance/electronica, but there is a real jazz/trip hop kind of core which I really love. "Stiff Jazz" is a perfect song to start with, I can't help but feel like it is the musical translation of the phrase "Shaken not stirred". Why not sit back and enjoy it too?
