Like all Baedeker guides this one has a fine fold out map and lots of tips for holiday makers who want to explore beyond the hubs of mass tourism. A large section has been devoted to the exciting capital, Las Palmas.
This book is actually a translation of the very popular German Gran Canaria guide. The only minor criticism is the eating out section. In island with a plethora of inexpensive and authentic eateries, some generic tourist traps have found their way into the recommended lists. On the whole though, this is the best one available in the English language.

I usually use Michelin Guides but couldn't find one at short noticie for Gran Canaria.
Best point was that guide was supplied with large detailed map which was good to have as we arrived & picked up our hire car.
Good on history, poor as holiday guide.
Very limited & sometimes misleading information. Twice, we set out to find archaeological sights & couldn't find them. One recommended restaurant at Jardin Canaria looked as if it had been closed for sometime. Times given on tours were misleading, seemed to be journey times without sight-seeing allowance.
I have never used Baedecker before & won't again, willingly.
