More About the Author

Hi. I'm John Matthews. I've written nearly a 100 books over the last 30 years or so. Books about many things. Pirates, King Arthur and the Grail Quest, Faeries, Robin Hood, and many more. I love folklore, history and film and I recently began writing for movies and TV, creating documentaries, TV scripts and motion pictures. I write in collaboration with many of my dearest friends, including Wil Kinghan, Ari Berk, and David Franzoni, and with some of the finest artists in the world, including Brian Froud, Charles Vess and Alan Lee. I have also written many books with my partner Caitlin Matthews, with whom I sometimes think I share a brain, and who knows what I'm thinking before I think it. I'm also beginning to collaborate with our son, the actor Emrys Matthews, with whom we wrote the wonderful Teen Oracle. I recently began to write books for younger readers, including graphic novels and the fabulous StoryWorld series. Writing so many books has always been hard work and it continues to be so, but I love the act of creation and cannot imagine ever doing anything else. I'm greatful to all the countless people who have read my books, especially those who made my book on Pirates a New York Times best seller in 2006. There are many more books to come, so I hope you'll keep reading, and keep pestering your booksellers to stock them!

Synopsis

There have been many books about the Grail, written from many differing standpoints. Some have been practical, some purely historical, others literary, but this is the first Grail book which sets out to help the esoterically inclined seeker through the maze of symbolism, character and myth which surrounds the central point of the Grail. In today's frantic world when many people have their material needs met some still seek spiritual fulfillment. They are drawn to explore the old philosophies and traditions, particularly that of our Western Celtic Heritage. It is here they encounter the quest for the Holy Grail, that mysterious object which will bring hope and healing to all. Some have come to recognise that they dwell in a spiritual wasteland and now search that symbol of the grail which may be the only remedy. Here is the guide book for the modern seeker, explaining the history and pointing clearly towards the Aquarian grail of the future. John Matthews and Marian Green have each been involved in the study of the mysteries of Britain and the Grail myth for over thirty-five years.

In The Grail Seeker's Companion they have provided a guidebook not just to places, but to people, stories and theories surrounding the Grail. A reference book of Grail-ology, including history, ritual, meditation, advice and instruction. In short, everything you are likely to need before you set out on the most important adventure of your life. "This is the only book that points the way to the Holy Grail in the 21st century." Quest --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

I hoped this book would shed some light on this subject, but I found it unreadable. This was due to the style of writing and the plethora of facts and seem unrelated topics.

This is a very good introduction to The Grail by two leading authorities. It is very accessible without being superficial, it covers many aspects and interpretations, with refereces to the key literary texts. Included are a number of visualisation exercises

There are also some wonderful illustrations by Chesca Potter.

Just been reading , on the Hallowquest website , that John and Caitlin matthews were busy writting yet another book on an Arthurian theme and they didn't know how they managed in the 80's doing the Western Way when Caitlin had a job as a libraian . If fact the only books worth reading from is pair are the early works , don't bother buying anything after the Arturian Tarot . This book Grail Seeker is excellent , so get back to the the job John and Caitlin
