Product Description

Grace/Wastelands is the debut solo album from Babyshambles frontman  and ex-Libertine Peter Doherty. Featuring collaborations with Graham Coxon and Dot Allison, Grace/Wastelands is a record full of invention and charm. Strong, poetic lyrics are backed by a blend of unpolished guitar twangs and softer acoustic strums. Includes the single "Last Of The English Roses".

I am 67 and my son is 24, so you might guess this purchase wasn't for me. Yet, you'd be only half right as it was for both of us. My lad has learnt never to force-feed anything, so my interest in Peter Doherty is a sulf-cultivated thing. However, he does try to keep me up-to-date and I welcome that. So, when he said "shall we see what this is like?", I thought why not? Getting the CD/DVD edition was an excellent decision. Whether one finds Peter's unique version of unpredictably and fraility (much in evidence in the DVD) appealing or not, his performance is fascinating. A troubadour in my view, and this evidences his devotion to subjects lyrical and amatory. Any artist whose work is equally but diffently attractive to us with our age difference must be worth a look?

Grabbed this the other day in HMV. Didn't even realise he had a solo album out, but I saw it on the shelf and bought it.

It sounds exactly as you'd expect really. Just mainly Pete and his guitar, not really many full band numbers on the record. It's difficult to pick a stand out track, but it's a pretty solid album. I certainly don't regret my purchase.

Really interesting CD! Has a lot of different sounds on it. Note that the DVD isn't formatted for U.S. players.

I love Peter Doherty!!! 24 April 2009

I have had this album in my cd player for over a month and I can't bring myself to switch it out. I'm slightly obessed with Mr. Doherty and his music. I'm quite sure he's never written a bad song. I am the Rain is stuck in my head at the moment, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I look forward to Broken Love Song cause it reminds me of Black Heart Procession. For a while I thought Palace of Bones was about dinosaur bones, and since I love dinosaurs I was stoked on this. Knowing the real lyrics now, I still think the song is excellent. This album is fun and educational - I looked up Salome, interesting stuff. All in all if you like The Libertines or Babyshambles you'll like this album.
Pete has really out done himself 16 April 2009
By Jimbo Jones - Published on Amazon.com

I knew when I pre ordered this album not to rush to judgement or expect anything like the Libertines or Babyshambles. What Pete has done is crafted some brilliant acoustic bluesy music (my opinion). I ordered the cd/dvd edition since the track listing isn't listed on amazon we are treated to 12 songs

1. Arcady

2. Last of the English Rosess

3. 1939 returning

4. A little death around the eyes

5. Salome

6. I am the rain

7. The sweet by and by

8. Palace of bone

9. Sheepskin tearaway

10. Broken love song

11. New love grows on tree

12. Lady don't fall backwards

The bonus dvd contains the following and is compatable with NTSC US dvd players

1. Interview

acoustic performances of 4 songs

1. Salome

2. New love grows on tree

3. Through the looking glass (not featured on the album)

4. Lady don't fall backwards

I seriously can not wait for a follow up album from this talented musican. Considering all the stuff Pete has been through the past few years he didn't fail to deliver (at least in my eyes) Pete please do another album soon.
