Product Description

Synopsis

This text presents a simple message - God is a God of grace. It is this grace of God which sets people free to become themselves even though they might pursue different lifestyles and explore very different ways of expressing freedom. This book is designed to help the reader learn to live rather than be an instruction book for the pursuit of accuracy of doctrine or purity of religious expression.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grace to melt your heart - how grace works in practise., 23 April 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Grace (Paperback)
"You are alright as you are" is the comforting message of this light but spiritual book that is not like any sermon you ever heard. It doesn't preach, it doesn't use proof texts and it doesn't moralise. It simply tells stories. Each little chapter is a story illustrating how grace works in practise. Grace "can rock the boat". Grace is "learned through experience". Grace "needs the right soil". You can pick the book up at any point and find a thought-provoking anecdote that can be read in less time than it takes to drink a cup of tea. So you can keep coming back for more. Like grace itself, this book melts your heart gradually, by penetrating the cold outer defences and warming those inner layers of reserve and self-criticism.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cut-to-the-chaste eloquence and refreshingly entertaining, 31 Dec 1999

This review is from: Grace (Paperback)
This "little" book may be small in dimensions but it has a huge message by astonishingly expressing with simplicity and humor what has mystified and confused so many folks for so many years. Thank God for this book and its message of grace--which could only have been written by the ever-original and beloved author, Maurice Fullard Smith, together with the hilarious color-commentary of esteemed illustrator Nick Butterworth. Bravo!! This book is nothing less than a must-read for anyone interested in finding out more about a truly Loving and Gracious God.

5.0 out of 5 stars Witty, anecdotal guide to spiritual freedom, 18 Jan 2000
By
This review is from: Grace (Paperback)
I found this book a liberating read, full of humour, showing an understanding of human frailty with which the author identifies. It is ideal for those trapped by biblical legalism or the authority structures of churches but who know nevertheless that there must be more to the spiritual life. Here the experience of authentic freedom is set down in a jargon-free anecdotal style by a writer with his feet firmly on the ground. The chapters are readably bite-sized and illustrated with witty cartoon-comment by Nick Butterworth. The book slips readily into the pocket for travel reading. Highly recommended.
