I have been lucky enough to see the actual Grace Kelly: Style Icon exhibition at the V@A so purchasing of this book is something of a reminder of the occasion for me.
The photography is beautiful with a lovely detailed take on a few of the garments from the collection, and the story of Grace Kelly as the actress, the bride and the princess is nicely tied with the topic of her style. I'm still missing more photographs of the collection pieces shown in detail, the book focuses more on displaying the iconic images (the images of Grace Kelly wearing the garments).
I particularly like the advice of Grace Kelly on how to 'travel light', like: 'A topcoat: in such fabrics as tweed or flannel, it can go form city to country.'
I also appreciate the short overview of the designers who dressed Grace Kelly and their connection to her.
This really was the golden age of couture and the time when women carried themselves as ladies, taking inspiration from the most stylish and admirable of them all, the legendary Grace Kelly.

Having read with interest other peoples reviews on this book(which,by the way,is the paperback version of the recent V&A Grace Kelly Costume Exhibition Catalogue)I was indeed slightly apprehensive about purchasing a copy-and with good reason.Having been swayed by the beautifull cover photograph of the paperback version I had hoped to find many similar quality photographs of Grace Kelly modelling the outfits inside-WRONG!Grainy,out of focus, and oft-seen are only three aspects to the photos selected of Grace's Wardrobe to be found in the book. Now,one would expect having been a collabrative effort between not one but THREE noteable Textiles experts, one being the actual Curator of Textiles at the V&A herself this could have been a golden oppertunity to absolutely showcase this exhibition to the highest degree-but-no- apart from one or two small detail photographs of the actual costumes on Exhibit we have to be satisfied with previously published photographs of the outfits in question being worn by Grace in so called "Candid" shots-i.e.Terrible Quality-photographs! Why not just simply publish the outfits as they appeared at the actual Exhibition instead? After all that's why people would be interested in this type of book in the first place!!Unfortunately as much as I adore the style of Grace Kelly this Book appears to be one MAJOR missed oppertunity by all concerned and I have to agree with the other reviewers of this particular book which is a bit of a shame. Think twice before you decide to buy it as the quality of its cover picture doesn't live up to the pictures inside.

This is a lovely book - part Grace Kelly's story and part Grace Kelly's fashion. Photos don't disappoint either. This is one that you couldn't view and I hadn't seen it in a bookshop so had bought it blind. V. pleased.

What a lovely book. This tie-in with the V&A exhibition is a must-buy for anyone with an interest in fashion history or even those just looking for inspiration for their own style. The book features segments on the main designers that created outfits for Grace Kelly; the photography is a mixture of images of Grace together with more detailed close-ups of outfits featured in the exhibition.
The synopsis for each designer is perhaps not as detailed as it could be, but then the subject is meant to be Grace Kelly rather than any one particular designer.
Don't worry if you haven't seen the exhibition, the book works well as a stand-alone item. Even better, read this together with the V&A's "Golden Age of Couture" and lose yourself in a bygone age of glamour. The Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London 1947-1957

A slim but beautifully produced book reminding us all of an era and style long since vanished. Recommended.
