Product Description

Sisters Grace and Favour are separated as children, Favour growing up to middle class life in London, Grace running wild in the glitzy world of films, but later events bring them together for a surprising reunion

After their mother’s tragic death, five year old Grace and her newly born sister were separated – Grace taken in by a foster family, Favour remaining with their father.
The story begins decades later when Favour, at a turning point in her life, finds she needs to seek out Grace. The two sisters seem different in every way; Favour, a down-to-earth mother, is married to Gus who runs a struggling security business in Shepherd’s Bush, while Grace – a bestselling author, dark, moody, exotic and rich – has escaped from a disastrous love affair in London only to fall into the same trap in Long Island. But when Favour takes her family to America to find and be reconciled with Grace, their lives merge in unexpected ways.

"Upcher knows how to reel in the reader" Daily Mail

A genuine page turner 21 Feb 2005
Format:Paperback
I started this book during my usual Sunday morning lie-in yesterday. Once I started, I just had to finish it.

It moves at a lively pace and dips into the emotions of both sisters. Various sub-plots involving other family members and friends captivate and keep the story moving swiftly. There's some oh-so-sweet revenge too, just for good measure. This book delivers the goods and leaves your reading-muscles satiated. Don't read this book if you need to be somewhere else - you'll not be able to put it down.

I'm only about a quarter of the way through this book (I have the American version: "Grace and Favor", but thought I'd write a review now, as the book is such a satisfying read!) I love Caroline Upcher's style of writing, every sentence seems to carry so much meaning and everything flows so very smoothly. Miss Upcher's characterization technique is faultless, and readers will be able to empathise with both central characters, each of whom has her own, individually distinctive narrative style. The storyline will appeal to readers from both sides of the Atlantic, as Grace lives on Long Island, USA, while Favor lives in London, England. It's a bittersweet story of the love between two sisters who have only just recently found each other after lived separately their entire lives. A very satisfying read, indeed, recommended.
