Product Description

CD Description

Second album from the orchestra that’s spearheaded the new-style salsa from Bogota, Colombia. LA 33 extend the basic Latin dance repertoire using a variety of genres from descarga and Latin jazz through to hard salsa and boogaloo, with rearrangements of Lucho Bermudez’ 60s porro classic “Plinio Guzman” as well as revisiting the funky rhythms of Colombia’s costeño music from the Caribbean coast: “La Fea” and “Bomba Colombiana”. They also deliver a tasty Cuban-style guajira-son, “Arrullo son”. The album’s other highlights continue to define La 33’s style, with classy arrangements, virtuoso soloing, outstanding musicianship – and, of course, 24-carat dance rhythms. Tracks: Descarga / Bye-Bye / Quiereme Na’ma / Plinio Guzman / La Fea / El Robo / Te Lo Voy a Devolver / Gozalo / Bomba Colombiana / Porque Yo / La Rumba Buena / El Turpial / La Tormenta (Sand Storm) / Arrullo y Son / My Favourite Things.

Masters!! 22 Feb 2009

The 33 has been a great finding for me. This is a band from Bogota, Colombia. They describe their music as bringing back the great sound of salsa in the 70's. In this CD in particular they show how talented and versatile they are by exploring different styles and scoring impeccable performances (i.e. El turpial, La tormenta or My favourite things). Being from Bogota myself, I found "Bomba colombiana" very funny. I enjoyed it a lot. Congratulations La 33!! You are a fantastic band.

Another great Salsa Album by La-33 9 May 2008

La-33, or Orquesta La 33 has once again produced another great album, packed with some very unique, vibrant Salsa. For those who understand Spanish, they've got interesting lyrics too.
Balanced mature sound out of Colombia 20 Aug 2009
By Marcos - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Colombian salsa bands can sound frenetic, almost like they are playing as if their lives depended on it.

While this band can certainly speed it up at times, they have more of a controlled slower sound than your average Colombian fare, particularly the bass which is played pretty slow. Their brass also sounds different than the typical Colombian band, with a strong NYC influence. The lyrics are bitter in many, but not all songs. They have one about Betty La Fea that is pretty funny. As many of their paisanos they mix in a little bit of Cumbia, they also have a bolero, and even a salsa instrumental version of the Jazz standard "My Favourite Things".

The only thing I didn't get into so much was the singer's voices. Their style and voice is too similar to each other.
