Biography

With 2 million paid song downloads through their site MuleTracks, eight critically acclaimed studio records already released, a handful of DVDs and live albums, plus an ever-expanding fanbase and sold-out coast-to-coast tours, Gov’t Mule could easily rest on its laurels.

Yet when you’re in one of the hardest working bands in rock history, pushing yourself to greater heights always supersedes cashing in on past successes.

Latest album, The Georgia Bootleg Box is a 6 disc set capturing Gov’t Mule’s entire 3-night run from Georgia in 1996 and features the band’s original trio: Warren Haynes (vocals/guitar), Matt Abts (drums) and Allen Woody (bass). The box set includes the full sets from The Georgia Theater in Athens on 4/11, The Roxy in Atlanta on 4/12 and Elizabeth Reed Music Hall in Macon on 4/13.

‘The 6-CD set is a unique look back at the trio, just two years old in ‘96, locked in and ripping through songs that have become classics of Mule’s live set including “Blind Man in the Dark”, “Trane” and “Thelonius Beck”. Haynes says he “was instantly taken with the visceral nature of the music along with the rawness of the way it was captured” when he recently rediscovered the recordings after fifteen years. “This was at a time in our career when our repertoire was small but constantly growing, not unlike our fan base.”
