This is a standalone game that does not need to have the original Gothic 3.
I entirely agree with the other reviews here that it was in a dreadful state at release.
But there has just Feb 16 , been released 240 Mb patch 1.08 that really
sorts out problems & turns this from an amateur half done mess into a professional game.
The price is to high..this is much smaller than G3 & only to be of interest to GOTHIC Fans @@@@

A twelve-year-old boy must have obtained a build-it-yourself Gothic 3 kit, 'created' Forgotten Gods and sent it to JoWood, who published it without checking, proof-reading or beta testing. Yes, it's THAT bad; in fact, it's appalling. Do yourself a favour - don't buy it! JoWood, hang your heads in shame!

I enjoyed Gothic 1, 2 and 3 so therefore was delighted when another installment was released. The game got bad reviews when it came out so I waited to give jowood & co time to bring out a patch to fix the problems. After I thought enough time had passed I finally bought the game downloaded the patches and proceeded to play the game. The game looks well i.e similar to G3. I didn't have to play for long to discover that the game was still riddled with bugs. Quite a few of the quests where impossible to finish including the main quest. This the the first game in that I had to stop playing as it was impossible to progress. Don't buy this game. Shame on a company like jowood who have brought out many excellent games to release something like this.

A mess
A disaster from start to finish...how they managed to take an already fairly stable world/code and produce this buggy disgrace is beyond me. Avoid at any price.

Give it a year.
It took a year for Gothic 3 to go from being a buggy mess to being one of the better RPGs out there, losing the disk check along the way. Read more
