4.0 out of 5 stars Is it worth it?, 9 May 2009
This review is from: Gossip Girl - Season 2 Part 1 [DVD] (DVD)
I've been dithering over whether to buy this for awhile mainly because the release schedule has been handled badly; whereas America is just getting the whole of Season two in one package we have to suffer the episodes being released in two parts and at odd times. The only benefit of buying this is getting the first eleven episodes early because the second half isn't being released until August and just seven weeks before a new box set of the complete season is released! So you'll be paying up to £20 more to own the complete season just a few weeks earlier. I wouldn't mind if the two parts were cheaper and released closer together but this seems a little silly!

Part one: April 13th 2009
Part two: August 10th 2009
The complete Season: September 31st 2009
Season three launch: August 31st 2009

I also think that this season takes awhile to get going. It's after episode eleven that things start to get interesting; Chuck, Blair and Serena's story's are excellent. These later episodes are filled with drama, tension and intrigue and worth paying a little more to own but I'm not sure the first half is...

Part one (three discs):

'Summer Kind Of Wonderful': (5*) The Hamptons is the perfect place for the rich to spend the last few days of Summer...but the secrets and lies have already started. ***Some lovely scenes between a heartbroken Blair and a regretful Chuck***

'Never Been Marcused': (3.5*) Blair tries to make the most out of dating the son of a Duke but a jealous Chuck has other plans.

'The Dark Night': (5*) The lack of passion in her and Marcus's relationship has Blair feeling frustrated. ***The black-out was an excellent way to highlight how the various couples have reached impasses in their relationships***

'The Ex Files': (4*) Could the old Serena be back? ***Lots of scheming in this one!***

'The Serena Also Rises': (3.5*) There's trouble at fashion week when old tensions surface between Serena and Blair.

'New Haven Can Wait': (4*) Serena attempts to teach Blair a lesson by sabotaging her chances of attending Yale. ***Blair pulls a blinder against an annoying Serena***

'Chuck In Real Life': (3) Blair enlists Chuck's help to take Vanessa down while the Basses play (un)happy families ***worth watching for the ending...wow***

'Pret-a-Poor-J: (3*) Jenny's feeling unappreciated at her internship with Eleanor Woldolf. Meanwhile Chuck makes Blair an ultimatum and Serena embarks on a new relationship ***Chuck and Blair are the highlight; the ending's very emotional***

'There Might Be Blood': (5*) Blair's plan to secure her place at Yale may backfire in an unexpected way. Meanwhile Jenny takes her career into her own hands but who might she hurt in the process?

'Bonfire Of The Vanity' (3.5*) Serena's new relationship continues to timidly move forward. Blair's power struggle with her mother's new man is great but it is the set up of a whole new, more ruthless Dan that moves this episode forward.

'The Magnificent Archibalds' (4*) It's thanksgiving and there are tensions galore in the upper east side as Nate has to deal with...Lilly discovers...Chuck and Vanessa are concerned by...Dan accidentally...Blair's infuriated by....Serena decides...and Jenny regrets ***sorry for the teasers but there was just too much to say!***

Part two (four discs):

'It's a Wonderful Lie' (5*) It's the Snowflake ball and Chuck and Blair challenge each other to find their perfect date. Meanwhile there is plenty of tension and drama between Nate, Vanessa and Jenny.

'O Brother, Where Bart Thou?' (5*) everyone's lives are effected by a sudden tragedy. ***A beautiful and sad exchange between Chuck and Blair is the highlight***

'In the Realm of the Basses' (5*) Can Blair bring Chuck back from the brink? ***Who knew you could put so much anger, pain and loss into the words "I'm Chuck Bass!"***

'Gone With the Will' (5*) A damaged Chuck gets played by his scheming uncle after his life drastically changes meanwhile a recently reunited Dan and Serena face their own troubles as some shocking news gets out.

'You've Got Yale!' (5*) Chuck and Blair embark on separate wars over their futures. But Blair may have underestimated new teacher Rachel.

'Carnal Knowledge' (4*) The war between Blair and Rachel continues but Blair has one heck of a plan to ruin her nemesis for good. ***The ending is perfect, as Dan falls even further off his high horse***

'The Age of Dissonance' (5*) It's time for the seniors annual theatre production and you know the saying about art reflecting life?

'The Grandfather' (3.5*) What was it Gossip Girl said in season one "you can't keep a bad girl down". Recent events leave Blair not caring much about anything least of all appearances.

'Remains of the J' (4*) A newly reunited Blair and Nate cause Chuck and Vanesssa to band together at the disaster that is Jenny's sixteenth birthday.

'Seder Anything' (4*) Serena returns from a trip to Spain with her friend Poppy and Poppy's boyfriend Gabriel with some unexpected news. Meanwhile Dan secretly gets a job as a cater-waiter to pay for college. But everyone's secrets collide at a very funny passover meal at the Waldorf's.

'Southern Gentlemen Prefer Blonds' (5*) Serena's relationship with the secretive Gabriel causes her friends to become suspicious.

'The Wrath of Con' (5*) Blair and Chuck hatch a plan to help out Serena and it includes none other than Georgina Sparks! I was really starting to miss the phsyco.

'Valley Girls' (3*) Lily is reminded of her past when she goes to bail Serena out of jail. Meanwhile Blair has aspirations of being crowned prom queen. ***The flashbacks weren't particularly interesting but the ending was great***

'The Goodbye Gossip Girl' (5*) After GG sends a vindictive blast out during graduation Serena decides it's time to finally find out her identity. ***Great last episode! GG proves herself to be a devious adversary. Some plot threads find much needed resolutions, while others are set up***

I have received Season 2 Part 2 but couldn't watch it as it would all be over too soon....So I went back to the beginning and watched them all again! It's brill as I'm picking up so many little subtle things that I missed first time round! I'm currently re watching this series and it's got so much more of an edge than season 1.
My boyfriend ignored it the first time round but this time he started watching at the end of season 1 and he's watching it with me now, he loves it!! He totally loves Chuck, he has a slight man crush on him lol.
Awesome Awesome Awesome Never Stop Creating Gossip Girl. Would miss it so much it they stopped it!!!!!
You know I love you!
