After a season which grew progressively darker and culminated in Chuck getting shot and lying bleeding on the street, I was not sure what to expect from Season 4. However, I am happy to report that this is a much better season than the previous one. I think this is due to several factors: a move away from the college scene for the most part, a tone which is less dark and more cohesive; but mostly due to 2 major relationships which defines Season 4, and has a life-changing effect on two characters in particular.
The first half of the season focuses on new girl Juliet's mysterious vendetta against Serena, Chuck and Blair's love/hate relationship and attempt at reconciliation, and the love triangle/rectangle between Nate, Serena, Dan and Vanessa. The story with Juliet isn't what we're led to believe it is, and in fact leads to a much bigger story about a secret in Serena's past at boarding school involving a teacher.
As much as I enjoyed Chuck and Blair's interaction, after a while I began to wonder if they were in danger of becoming a bit stale after 3 years. About a quarter of the season in, I felt I'd seen every aspect of their relationship. But don't worry, C/B fans still have much to enjoy this season.
The second half of the season centres on Chuck struggling to save Bass Industries, and discovering a shocking secret of his father's. It also features Serena's new relationship with Ben. However, it is the development of Dan and Blair's unnamed friendship which really invigorates the show. 'OC' fans have labelled Dan and Blair the new Seth and Summer, but I think they have more in common with Joey and Pacey from 'Dawson's Creek.... Read more ›

As expected, this latest season of Gossip Girl was filled with feuds, money, shopping, secrets, love-affairs, friendships, hidden identities, hidden objectives, handsome men, beautiful women- I could go on, but you know the drill.
Some have said that they believe this to be this to be the best season yet and I can see why. I think that this season does a good job of meshing all the characters together for once. In previous seasons we have seen the characters in Brooklyn and the characters living in the Upper East Side lead very separate lives with only a couple of characters coming into contact with each other (namely Dan and Serena). However, season 4 sees all of the characters coming together with new relationships forming and old relationships falling apart. After the marriage of Lily and Rufus, Dan has become a much bigger player in the Upper East Side and people are starting to see him less as 'Brooklyn boy' and more as Daniel Humprey, love interest of the Serena Van Der Woodsen and friend of Nathaniel Archibald (and later, Blair Waldorf - shocker). I think the marriage of the two parents was a wise move and it really cemented the bridge between Brooklyn and the Upper East Side allowing more character interactions.
Expect to see some familiar faces from the past popping up to cause trouble again, but don't expect this to be the last time you see them, they may just appear when you least expect it. There are also some new characters who add weight and mystery to the drama. Be wary of these new characters, they may not be who they appear to be, then again, people rarely are in Gossip Girl.... What would we ladies do without Chuck and his little Empire:)
Yet again, the devastatingly good looking cast accompany a strong series of stories all of which seem to top last season's plots.
My only grumble with this season is Nate. He really isn't given much to do, and his character is becoming less attractive by the episode.
When season 5 debuts later this year, I hope they address that issue.

I like to wait for the Seasons to come to DVD before watching because i like to do GG marathons and finish it in 2 days or so :D So worth the wait! I love Gossip Girl so much :D Cant wait for season 5 now! :D

I was very excited that Gossip Girl had been renewed for a Fourth Season after the third, I thought it would in trouble due the lack of the viewing figures. The first half of the season had me gripped, Juliet as a main antagonist was a fantastic addition to the show; we knew that she had a vendetta against Serena, but we didn't know why, that's what made it so interesting. Every character was joined together with the storyline, there was no "Dan & Vanessa in Brooklyn; Chuck & Blair get involved etc.
The second half seems a bit stale, the plot with Chuck's company & Serena and her former tutor don't live up the expectations of the first half.
Never the less, this series was probably one of my favourites just because of the first half. I hope it's renewed for a 5th Season.

once again purchased for my daughter, mad gossip girl fan. Teenagers love this sort of thing. purchased all the series before this just adds to the collection.

Gossip girl at its best
I love this the series is fun quirky and full of surprises a brilliant series 4, makes me want to continue watching further. I will be buying season 5 😄😄😄
