Product Description

Product Description

Gorillas: Living on the Edge is a book about Andy's passion for the endangered mountain gorillas of Rwanda.

This book is a celebration of their life through his personal journeys into their world, set on the misty slopes of their last stronghold, the magnificent Virunga Volcanoes. Follow his adventures as he visits the highest living group of mountain gorillas, experiences the daily challenges facing a young gorilla (inlcuding the Bad Hair Day sequences) and encounters a group of gorillas that have had far too much bamboo juice for their own good. Themed chapters explore the lives of his favourite silverbacks and the emotions behind his first gorilla trek. It's a fun and irreverant look at this affable ape, beautifully illustrated with over 120 of Andy's finest images, grouped together in stories that make you feel like you are there.

In many ways the conservation success of mountain gorillas to date is a model for the future conservation of many species. Just like tigers, their continued survival depends on them being worth more alive than dead. It is Andy's view that the future of the mountain gorilla depends very much on sustainable tourism. That view is also shared by his partner in this book, Will Bolsover, Managing Director of World Primate Safaris Ltd. With his help, Andy has taken many tourists to Rwanda to watch gorillas, so who better than Will to write the conservation and tourism sections of this book. He does not dwell on the past, but instead, is looking forward to a future where sustainable tourism is the key to mountain gorilla conservation.

This book follows the successful blueprint of its predecessor Tigers: a Celebration of Life by contributing directly to conservation. 25% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated directly to conservation projects in Rwanda. The projects chosen by Will and Andy, will benefit both the mountain gorillas and the local communities that live alongside them.

Gorillas: Living on the Edge is 26cm x 26cm square and contains 96 pages printed on the highest quality art paper. It has been produced and printed entirely in the UK, thus supporting our local printing industry and safeguarding British jobs. It is truly a wonderful book and will give young and old hours of pleasure, click below to order your copy today!
