2.0 out of 5 stars Toasts half of the usual slice 13 Jan 2010
It looks swish, very sturdy, although a bit bulkier than I would've liked it. I have tried every way I can to get it toast the whole slice. Slices come out toasted only 2/3 (the bottom part). It looks like the toaster is not deep enough although it is huge!
I am deeply disappointed to have paid this amount for a toaster that does not do the only thing it should!! Mr Ramsey you keep patronising everybody for the slightest mistakes but sell this rubbish with such a price tag???

1.0 out of 5 stars a poor toaster in the medium run 20 Jan 2010

We only received this toaster a few days ago, but so far looks quite good.
I am no expert in reviewing toasters, but there a few features I like.
Firstly the whole body is in brushed steel thus it looks robust: my previous toaster had a hard plastic shell that eventually cracked in a few places after 10 years of exposure to high temperatures.
Despite the metal surfaces, it is very well insulated: thus during use only the top (where the separate bun heating rack could be placed) becomes hot, whereas all sides and the bottom remain pretty cool. It also seems pretty safe: in my previous toaster the heating elements could be seen and could be accidentally touched whereas in this one they are fully covered/protected by a metal plate (this makes this toaster a bit wider though slightly less long than my previous Kenwood toaster). I also like the blue lights going on in the front which help to check when the toasting is over. There are now more controls than I was used to, including cancel, heat only the front slot, reheat & defrost. When toasting is over the slice support seems to be reurning to a "high lift" position which is higher than in my older toaster: this facilitates removing half-slices or small slices.
The downsides: it is a bit wider than before, the slider to bring down the slices and start the heating needs initially a firm action (or else it did not remain depressed), and the heat only the front slot button can only be pressed after starting the heating (not a big issue). The toasting can be adjusted to 8 settings, though so far I have not used anything less than 8 (the maximum): I am not sure there is much use for some of the lower settings.
Overall it seems much better than my older toaster and appears to be well-built.

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointing experience 2 Jun 2010
Verified Purchase
This product has excellent quality, strongly built, seems reliable and simple to use.
But there is one major issue; it does not brown the whole toast - the upper (outer) one inch of toast does not immerse into grill and remains un-toasted (I use normal bread - large).
Otherwise, rest of the toast is done nicely and evenly.
Crumb try has push spring feature and comes out/snug smoothly.
I have to return the product for not doing its basic job.

1.0 out of 5 stars rubbish toaster 1 April 2011
By gazza
got this toaster from a local store at 50% off. At 40 quid I thought I had a bargain. Sturdy, good looking piece of kit and with Gordon Ramsay's name attached, must be good. Steer clear of this, it's a heap of rubbish! Doesn't toast the entire slice of even smallish loaves and now, after just 3 months of ownership, the lifting leaver is broke. Gordon, if you're reading this mate ..... @+*%~?"$~^!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Big but beautiful 29 Jan 2010

It was slightly larger than I had thought but it has loads of options and even a keep toast warm function - a boon for a fussy eater! It can cope with muffins, crumpets, frozen or fresh - if you like toasted then this is perfect. It does not do toasted sandwiches, but I hadn't bought it for that.
