My son Joseph has autism in the Aspergers spectrum. We have fought hard to deal with his main problem - that of communication. Joe can neither receive nor disseminate information as other five year olds can. We (Sarah and me) first came to the KeyKids range of products soon after Joe was diagnosed (age 3).

The format is particularly suited to his condition and hence the basic understanding, exhibited by the writers, has depth hidden from the parent of an ordinary child. Able children will not dally with repetition of ordinary words or phrases - once grasped they become the stuff of daily life. Joseph must revisit the structure of language many tmes before the coloquial use becomes familiar. It takes many, many rehearsals for the structure of a phrase to become usable by modification to life circumsatnces he experiences every day.

However, the format enables repetition either by page, line or word and we have the opportunity to ask other questions, colour of clothing, importance of friends, avarice and quality of life, all of which enhance Joe's understanding of language and this basic and entertaining tool of education.

Love the Frank Sinatra impersonation by the geese disguising themselves from the axe weilding farmer!
