What a delightful book! 7 Jan 2010

Although one reviewer complained of the lack of colour illustrations, I feel that it is more than compensated for by the author's narratives and the beginning of each chapter and between some of the recipes. The recipes themselves are wonderful and you can almost smell them cooking as you read through them.

excellent cookery, social and historic guide to Southwest Fr 13 May 2001

This book is a pleasure to read and a fountain of information on how to cook in the authentic, southern French way. Having spent some time in Gascony, I was taken straight back there by her descriptions of village markets. Her research is impeccable and her comments among the recipes makes this a book to sit down and enjoy as well as use.

A deeply felt salute to the gastronomic riches of Gascony and the regions around it. The recipes are great and the text around the recipes is worth the price of the book alone. Thorough, charming, and highly recommended for even serious cook and for those who love the 'real' France.
