It's a shame The Goon Show as a whole never made it big in "The States" as it did in England. I think a lot of shows like "Saturday Night Live" and the recently dreadful mistake "Hype" could learn a thing or two about writing decent comedy from Spike Milligan. I say this speaking as an American and quite tired of sketch comedies that basically consist of a helping of political and pop culture parodies as well as tired reacurring characters that return every week and utter some obnoxious catch phrase. The Goons are a blessing to me and Peter Sellers, Harry Secombe and Spike Milligan are incredibly funny. There are so many great episodes on this CD and just when you think you've picked out your favourite, then another comes along and whacks you right between the eyes. Although, I must admit my favourite episode on this is "The Sinking of the Westminster Pier". Spike Milligan's bits of poetry is howlingly funny as well as Peter Sellers's assortment of incidental characters. All the episodes have these great moments and the usual mangling of words that just make the Goons so brilliant. If you haven't heard the Goons before and you are curious to hear them for the first time, I highly recommend you make this CD your first. You will be hooked. Have a glass of water. Drink as much as you like. The basement's flooded.

ive been an avid fans of the goons since my parents bought me my first tape when i was about 10. im now 17 and still as big a fan as ever, and i was very sad to hear of harry secombes recent death. this tape is definately one of the best, although 'the yehti' isnt one of my favourites. the usual mix of brilliant humour and storylines. it also has the timeless 'what time is it eccles?' sketch which has to be one of the funniest things ive ever heard. a must-buy for all goon show fans.

More fabulous nonsense from the Goons. You can't miss with this collection. Every one is a gem and the "What time is it Eccles" section should be, as Dennis Norden once said, taught in schools. We shall not see its like again.
