From Amazon.co.uk

Seann William Scott may best be known for his career-making performance as Stifler in the American Pie movies, but as he proves in Goon, there's a lot more to him than that. In fact, here he plays someone that's against the characters of his that we've met before. In Goon, Scott is the innocent one, who just happens to have a real talent for bashing seven shades out of people. Which, consequently, leads to an ice hockey career.

Goon works on two objectives: to be funny, and to be violent. It comfortably succeeds with both. The Blu-ray gives you the most unflinching, crystal clear view of teeth falling out and blood spilling, as Goon delivers on-ice action of some intensity. There's room for the jokes to keep flying too, and while the tone of the movie is wildly uneven, it nonetheless hangs together well.

The Blu-ray boasts some interesting extra material too, with footage that didn't make the final cut, funny bloopers, a closer look at the fighting, and some time spent in the company of Seann William Scott and co-star Jay Baruchel. But with a scene-stealing Liev Schreiber also on board, Goon's main feature remains the best reason to pick this disc up. It’s not for the squeamish, though. At all. --Jon Foster

Product Description

Doug Glatt (Seann William Scott, American Pie, Role Models) may not be the sharpest blade on the rink, but he’s got a killer right hook. When his best friend (Jay Baruchel, Knocked Up) runs into trouble, Doug’s ability to beat the crap out of everyone and everything impresses the coach of a failing ice hockey team who quickly enrol him as protector of their screwed up ex-star player, La Flamme. Bonding through brawls, beer and broken bones, the team find a place in the big league. But when Doug comes fist to face with notoriously violent pro-player, Ross ‘The Boss’ Rhea (Liev Schreiber, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), the gloves are well and truly off...

Special Features:
  • Power play clips
  • Deleted scenes
  • Outtakes / blooper reel
  • Interviews with Seann William Scott and Jay Baruchel
  • Goalie audition
  • Fighting 101
  • Goon hockey cards

I, like another reviewer bought this blu ray for my boyfriend's birthday. He had been going on (and on and on) about watching this film, purely because he liked the cover. So I ordered it as a present, and I'm so glad I did! This film is hilarious from start to finish. Seann William Scott is at his comedic best and is more lovable than ever. Trying out to be a pro hockey player without being able to skate, trying so hard to get his teammates to like him and to make his adoptive parents proud. It's all really funny stuff but it's done in such a way that you just can't help liking him more and more. I must admit that the best part for me was the very brief appearance (so brief that they are not even credited) of Ricky and Julian from the Trailer Park Boys! It was such a shock to see them in the film but that alone made it worth every penny for me. One thing I found very interesting was the fact that this film is actually based on a true story. At the end credits you can see footage of the guy this film is based on, fighting on the ice and after with black eyes, a cut lip and bruises all over his face. He was never actually with a hockey team to play hockey, just to get into fights! An interesting career choice to say the least.

The picture and sound quality of the blu ray itself are excellent and there are some great special features.
I really can't recommend this film enough. It's an instant feel good film full of love and laughs that I could happily watch again and again.

Please give it a go!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars The Goon Show 26 Mar 2013
By Sam
Certain sports befuddle the Englishman; American Football is one, basketball another. One sport that the Americans do like and which I understand is Ice Hockey - it contains fighting. `The Goon' is a film based on the true story of Doug Smith who gained some small notoriety from being an enforcer on the ice and not a player as such. Played as a comedy, `Goon' follows Seann William Scott's Doug as he rises from never playing the sport to making it to the big leagues, mostly by protecting the other players on his team and punching the opponents.

`Goon' is a good natured film that aims to please and does just that. Scott is great as the simple minded Doug, think Stiffler, but pleasant. There is a worrisome feeling that Doug is perhaps mentally challenged, but it is never delved into, so I assume he was just meant to be a bit thick. The film blends the off ice action well with the on ice action. I like my sports films to actually recognise the activity, rather than completely ignoring it. `Goon' does this and some of the best scenes are set out on the ice as The Goon fights for glory.

There is a certain rawness to the film that is in keeping with Doug's lower league status in the film, but is also down to the lack of budget. Michael Dowse does a good job in directing a film to the scale it is, but you cannot help wondering that with some more support the film could have been even better. As it is, the film is a good watch, especially for Ice Hockey or comedy film fans. However, the alienating nature of the rules of the sport may be off-putting to some.

Its raw nature means that `Goon' does not need to be seen in BluRay for the film to work.

Great film, brought it for my boyfriend's birthday and it looks really good in blue ray!! Would recommend this to a friend, the cover doesn't give the film good enough credit in my opinion, 5 stars**.
