The Google Nexus 7 now comes in three versions, from other suppliers.
16 gb from £158
32 gb from £195
32 gb plus 3g for £239

My remarks, below, about the BBC iPlayer have now been superseded by the release of a BBC iPlayer app.

My Original Review from August 2012

This Tablet is great!! I've only had it a couple of days, and I cannot recommend it enough.
Firstly, I'm a silver surfer, so not young. I already have an Android HTC Desire S phone, which makes the set-up familiar.

I bought the larger 16GB version, as there is no expansion SD card slot, for £199.99 from, sounds like, what you eat after the pub on a Friday night.
Come on Amazon, I know it competes with the Kindle, but let the punters choose, instead of having this overpriced offering.

I've been waiting for a few months for this Asus Google Nexus 7 tablet to come out, after reading lots of industry reviews and hoping the hype was true, and it is.

As someone else said, it's easier to set up if you already have a Google account. It imported all my contacts, emails, Chrome bookmarks and some of the Apps I had on the phone, Astro file manager and SkyEye, for you astronomers, Google Maps, Google Earth.

To look at the internet or movies or pictures in landscape mode:
Pull down the menu from the top with your finger and touch the circling arrows around a rectangle symbol.

Yes you can watch BBC iPlayer, using the Nexus 7

1. Using the Nexus 7 download the Firefox Beta Browser from Google Play.

2. From inside Firefox Beta using your Nexus 7 find, download and install both these files.

Adobe Flash Player 11.1_11.1.115.11.apk

BBC iPlayer_1.3.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nexus 7 Product Review 17 Aug 2012
By Purple Ferret TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Size Name:16GB
Along with one or two others I know of, I have staunchly refused buy anything with an "i" in the name to date, firstly because I object to being "boxed in" with my choice of software and connectivity, and secondly because I suspect that I have that perverse British sense of supporting the underdog... and until recently it seems that was how Android devices were perceived. As of summer 2012 however Android is now the most popular OS for mobile devices in the world (56% market share?) and with the July 2012 release of the Nexus 7, Google (the owners of the Android brand) claim to have a serious contender in the tablet market (some would argue for the first time). So, having owned one now for a couple of weeks how does it stack up?

Check any internet or magazine review and you will find that this is a well made, competent product which Google (or Asus, who are technically the manufacturer) can rightly be proud of. It's powered by quad-core 1.3Ghz processor which is as good as anything available, and runs the very latest version of Android (4.1 "Jellybean") which will be familiar to any users of previous versions, but now includes "Google Now" as a rival to Apple's "Siri".

Inevitably people will want comparison to the i-pad, or even other Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab, and it would be easy to rattle on for paragraphs, but I'll try and make this concise.... so:

This is a 7" tablet, so technically has a screen about half the size of an i-pad or Galaxy Tab 10.1. A direct comparison is unfair, it's designed to slip into a bag or even a pocket... try doing that with a full size tablet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Kit, but be warned 26 Sep 2012
By Andy D
Size Name:16GB
Wanted to give this tablet 5 stars because it really does what it says on the box.

But be warned. They have a hardware fault currently in a high proportion of these units. The screen turns off and will not turn back on without turning off and back on. The screen will stop working at any point, surfing, movies, gaming anything.

Google service department is excellent and they will try to do a hardware reset, in my case this did not work. I then ordered a new unit from google, they send a replacement unit whilst you have the other, this will get authorised against your card but not charged unless you do not send the old unit back.

Performance is superb. Mass Effect, Dead Space and other Tegra 3 games run without a hitch and fast.

Netflix works brilliantly, spend more time watching this in bed than TV.

Google play store is excellent and the range of apps, books is huge (kindle app runs fine).

Chrome is excellent, syncing my iphone, laptop and now nexus.

I'm glad I bought it even though it failed to work first time.

Brilliant alrounder and a brilliant price.

Bought a nexus not from Amazon and love it. Watch on YouTube to find out how to install flash player. More important than this is buying the nexus media importer app which when used with a mini USB to USB adapter will allow you to stream music and movies from a flash drive. Love this app the small size of memory no longer matters can have all my media on flash drives and nothing on my nexus.
